Striving for balance means following through on both sides of your body, even when it’s not pretty. I’m the worst offender here, and have subsequently paid the price in my body by perpetuating the difference between my good side and bad side. If we never love on our bad side like we do our more gifted side…how can we create a union between the two? The answer is…we can’t. Sunday mantra…balance. Give your “bad side” some love today. ❤️❤️❤️

Just got back from teaching some awesome tennis kids yoga at Smith Stearns Tennis Academy…taught them a bunch of fun arm balances to go along with their flexibility training…it reminded me how much I love taking flight! Now that I live across from the beach again there will be a lot of beach pictures coming back around! ❤️❤️❤️ (at Smith Stearns Tennis Academy)

"Surgeons are bred to be invulnerable, it’s very hard to lay ourselves bare. Because we know exactly how deep some injuries can go. But vulnerability isn’t the opposite of strength, it’s a necessary part. We have to force ourselves to open up, to expose ourselves, to offer up everything we have and just pray that it’s good enough. Otherwise, we’ll never succeed."

I am no stranger to cancer or chronic illness. In my short 30 years, I have watched as numerous family members and friends have battled cancer, some of them finding success and many others who haven’t been so lucky. And while it may be difficult to imagine, seeing me now on the other side of my own battle, my life too was once a long list of hospitals, doctors appointments, medications and disease.

At the age of 19, after years of undiagnosed gut-related symptoms, I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, an incurable, inflammatory autoimmune disease of the digestive system. It was a few months later that I underwent my first emergency surgery to remove a foot of diseased bowel and a softball sized abscess that had perforated and was within hours of taking my life.

I spent the subsequent eight years in medical limbo. Undergoing multiple infusions, hospital stays and surgeries. After having exhausted nearly every medicinal option prescribed to me, it wasn’t until I stumbled upon Yoga that my body began to find healing.

After two years of complete medical remission without medication, it’s fairly safe to say Yoga has cured what was believed to be incurable. Now my aim is to better understand the ‘why’ to I can help others with the ‘how’, and it is my life-mission to share this incredible gift with anyone seeking to find healing in their own mind, body and spirit.

Supporting my Give Forward campaign will send me to the Integral Yoga Institute in New York City for a 100 Hour Yoga Teacher Training specifically geared toward Yoga Therapy in Cancer and Chronic Illness. I realize this is last minute as the training will be taking place on November 14-23rd, but I do believe this opportunity has not come at chance and with your help we can make this dream a reality. All funds raised will go toward tuition, food, lodging and travel expenses while I am in New York.
